Job Description

As a Litigation Legal Assistant specializing in Unlawful Detainer cases, your primary responsibility is to support attorneys and clients in all aspects of the legal process related to unlawful detainer actions. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient management of cases from initiation to resolution. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of legal procedures and terminology related to landlord-tenant law.

Responsibilities:

  1. Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing unlawful detainer cases from inception to conclusion. This includes maintaining case files, tracking deadlines, and ensuring all documents are organized and filed appropriately.
  2. Document Preparation: Prepare and draft legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, discovery requests, and other pleadings related to unlawful detainer proceedings.
  3. Court Filings: File legal documents with the appropriate courts and agencies in a timely manner, adhering to all procedural requirements and deadlines.
  4. Communication: Serve as a liaison between attorneys, clients, courts, and opposing parties. Communicate case updates, requests for information, and other relevant matters effectively and professionally.
  5. Research: Conduct legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and procedural rules pertaining to unlawful detainer actions. Summarize findings and provide analysis to attorneys as needed.
  6. Calendar Management: Maintain attorney calendars, scheduling court appearances, depositions, meetings, and other appointments related to unlawful detainer cases.
  7. Client Support: Assist clients with inquiries, provide updates on case status, and ensure client satisfaction throughout the legal process.
  8. Trial Preparation: Assist attorneys in preparing for trial, including organizing exhibits, coordinating witness appearances, and compiling trial binders.
  9. Administrative Tasks: Perform general administrative duties such as answering phones, photocopying, scanning, and filing documents.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field. Paralegal certification or coursework is a plus.
  2. Experience: Previous experience working in a law firm or legal environment, with specific experience in litigation and unlawful detainer cases preferred.
  3. Knowledge: Strong understanding of landlord-tenant law, civil procedure, and legal terminology. Familiarity with court rules and procedures related to unlawful detainer actions.
  4. Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and data entry.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
